ABOUT

Youth Initiatives at the Arts Centre

Welcome to Youth and Education Music at the Arts Centre! In 2009, we are proud to launch a distinctive suite of youth initiatives and programs at our iconic centre, including the establishment of adventurous educational programs with strong social benefits.

Youth Music

Youth Music Projects cater to a youth demographic traditionally underrepresented at the Arts Centre including marginalized and culturally diverse youth. Youth music programs focus on the development of an arts practice in youth aged 13-23, through mentoring and the provision of access to resources and materials.

The principles for youth experience for these projects focus on:

·         Utilization of new technologies for creativity and innovation;

·         Building skills/development of an arts practice;

·         Promotion of independent learning; and

·         Creation of a meaningful online culture which utilizes familiar interfaces established though internet based social networking.

Education Music

Education Music Projects are directly targeted to schools and are either carried out in the school environment or externally as a school-based excursion. They include performances, workshop events and online collaborative arts projects.

The principles for youth experience for Education Music projects are:

·         Challenging students through exposure and participation;

·         Utilization of new technologies for creativity and innovation;

·         Promotion of independent learning within a group setting; and

·         Providing access for regional students to education events and online projects.
